Dear Flett Family and members of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation:
We would like to express on behalf of the member communities the Union of BC Indian Chiefs our profound shock and deep sadness to learn of the sudden passing of Chief Francis Flett.
We respectfully offer our condolences and prayers to members of his family and community during this very difficult time. Chief Flett will be remembered as a man who dedicated his life's work to the defense of his people's treaty rights. He was relentless in his efforts to safeguard the safety, health and well-being of our children and families. His strong, unwavering voice of leadership will be greatly missed by all Aboriginal people across Turtle Island.
He was greatly loved and respected by all who had the pleasure and honor of knowing him. He shall be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Sincerely,
