UBCIC 48TH ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY
FINAL NOTICE

Dear Chiefs Council, sister organizations and friends:
Please be advised, the UBCIC 48th Annual General Assembly is scheduled for September 21st-23rd, 2016. The AGA will be held at Musqueam Community Centre, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Territory). We are pleased to inform you the UBCIC will reimburse travel and accommodation costs for the Chief or the Chief's proxy for this AGA. Attached please find a proxy template letter if required.
The blocks of rooms reserved under the Union of BC Indian Chiefs at the River Rock Casino Resort and Holiday Inn are now full. Please call Mildred Chartrand (604-684-0231) if you have not yet booked a room and require assistance selecting another hotel. Please RSVP for the meeting as soon as possible with this link: http://www.ubcic.bc.ca/aga2016. A shuttle bus will be available to Musqueam from the River Rock Casino Resort.

Please note that UBCIC Women’s Representative Coola Louis is holding a UBCIC Women’s Caucus during lunch on September 21st. Additionally, there is a special event on September 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. where First Nations leaders are invited to sign a Treaty Alliance between Indigenous Nations to stop expansion of Tar Sands pipelines, tankers and trains.
As directed at the UBCIC Chiefs Council on June 1st-2nd, 2016, the first day of the Chiefs Council meeting (September 21st) will be dedicated to continued discussion on Title and Rights.

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip Re-elected by Acclamation
I was appointed to act as Chief Electoral Officer for the UBCIC Executive Elections. Nominations for the position of UBCIC President closed today at 4:30 pm. At that time, only one candidate – Grand Chief Stewart Phillip - had been nominated for the position of President.
Pursuant to the By-laws (Election of Executive Committee and Active Members “VIII (e) (v) Where there is only one candidate nominated for any position that candidate shall be declared elected by acclamation”) Grand Chief Stewart Phillip is hereby declared elected for a three-year term.
A letter announcing the election by acclamation, and including Grand Chief Stewart Phillip's candidate statement is attached.
Election of the remaining Executive and Active Member position (Vice-President; Secretary Treasurer; Women's Representative; Youth Representative; Elder's Representative) will occur at the Chiefs' Council meeting scheduled for February 16-17, 2017.
