Global Climate March - Vancouver

On November 29th millions of people in cities, towns and villages around the world will be marching to demand real climate action from world leaders as they gather in Paris (November 30 to December 11, 2015) for the United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP21) setting targets for greenhouse gas reductions.  Here in Canada people have voted overwhelmingly for a change in government to reflect fresh approach to climate issues, and we now have an opportunity to send a powerful message about the direction we want Justin Trudeau’s government to take as he heads to Paris.

We need firm commitments to rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions but we also need a rapid transition to a sustainable green economy based on the principals of social and environmental justice.  Respecting and defending the rights of First Nations, restoring and expanding our public services, and fighting for well-paying, secure union jobs are all necessary aspects of making a transition to an economy that cares for the planet and for the people who live on it.

We would like to invite you and your organization to join with our growing coalition of individuals and organizations in mobilizing for this historic demonstration here in Vancouver.

Who are we?
We are a broad range of individuals and organizations that have come together, to create an event simliar to the 400,000 strong Peoples Climate March in New York City last September and the 5,000 strong Climate March that happened at the same time in Vancouver. Organizing this march includes a broad range of individuals and organizations.   BROKE (Burnaby Residents Opposed to Kinder Morgan Expansion), Council of Canadians Vancouver-Burnaby Chapter, 350Vancouver, System Change Not Climate Change, Union of BC Indian Chiefs and We Love This Coast and many other dedicated citizens. (Please see our website for more information:www.peoplesclimateconvergence.org.)

Here are some actions your organization can take to help build for November 29th:

Endorse:  by endorsing the November 29th (1 pm) mobilization you agree to have your organization’s name and logo used as part of promoting the event.  You can endorse the event directly and see who else has endorsed by visiting: http://peoplesclimateconvergence.org/endorse-global-climate-march

Promote:  informing members, locals, chapters etc of your organization about the event would be an enormous help in getting the word out and encouraging people to participate.  We can send you a ready-made email to forward along with a PDF for the event poster and leaflet.  We can also send someone to make a presentation to the next meeting of your organization.

Support:  Monetary, as well as in-kind contributions, to help cover the expenses of this event will be greatly appreciated.  Cheques should be made payable to 350 Vancouver, please contact: (Bill Winder, 604-736-9171, [email protected]) for more information.  Costs for the event include printing, a sound system and travel for guest speakers.

Participate: we are working to build a broader climate coalition and would love to see you or another member of your organization attend the next Climate March Organizing Meeting on Wednesday, November 25th, 7:00pm at Grandview Calvary Baptist Church, 1801 East 1st Ave.
