UBCIC Celebrates Grand Chief Stewart Phillip’s Historic Acclamation to a Tenth Consecutive 3-Year Term as President

(xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil Waututh)/ Vancouver, B.C. – October 7, 2025) The Union of BC Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) proudly celebrates Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, SnPink’tn, Sylix Nation, who has been re-elected by acclamation to an unprecedented tenth consecutive three-year term as President. At the opening of the UBCIC 57th Annual General Assembly this morning, Grand Chief Phillip was drummed in and honoured by the Chiefs Council, family and community members, and supporters.

“I am deeply honoured and humbled by the confidence of the UBCIC Chiefs Council in acclaiming me to a tenth term as President,” stated Grand Chief Stewart Phillip. “With the support of Joan and our family, I made the decision to continue this work because the challenges facing our people remain immense. We need to pour our hearts and souls into resolving the outstanding land question in B.C. We are in a time of profound crisis—climate change is devastating our lands, the opioid crisis continues to steal lives, and our people still face systemic racism, violence, and displacement. Now more than ever, we need strong, stable, and experienced leadership that stands firm in the face of these challenges. I remain committed to walking with our people and defending our inherent title and rights with humility, resolve, and love for our future generations. Lim Limpt.”

As he begins this historic tenth term, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip continues to lead with courage, wisdom, and an unshakable commitment to the unity and strength of the UBCIC Chiefs Council in holding all governments accountable to their obligations.
