Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) is acknowledging the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Today, we call on the Province to take urgent action to address gender-based violence and to work with survivors and families to implement Dr. Kim Stanton’s Final Report recommendations alongside the National Inquiry’s Calls for Justice.

Nov 19, Ottawa, ON – The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples (APPA Committee) voted 10-1 in favour of amendments to Bill S-2 that, if supported by the Senate and House of Commons, will eliminate the second generation cut-off and prevent the legislative extinction of First Nations.

Union of BC Indian Chiefs (UBCIC), Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) reach a settlement agreement to improve supports for Indigenous peoples through their liver transplant care journeys

UBCIC, VCH and PHSA are pleased to announce they have reached a settlement agreement regarding class complaints made through the BC Human Rights Tribunal (BC HRT). Under the agreement, UBCIC will withdraw its complaints with the BC HRT and VCH and PHSA will make specific amendments to British Columbia’s liver transplant guidelines.

UBCIC Objects to Canada’s Latest Addition of B.C. LNG and Related Resource Developments to Major Projects List

(xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil Waututh)/ Vancouver, B.C. – November 13, 2025) Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed that the Ksi Lisims LNG export terminal and the associated Prince Rupert Gas Transmission (PRGT) pipeline in northwestern B.C.,  and the North Coast Transmission Line, along with four other projects across the country, are being referred to the Major Projects Office for consideration. These projects are being advanced under the One Canada Economy Act (OCEA), legislation that gives Ottawa sweeping authority to fast-track resource and infrastructure projects deemed to be “in the national interest.”
